Body mass index calculator.
Before beginning to draw up a weight loss program, it is important to get an accurate and objective view of your health situation, and the best way to do this is with an assessment of your body fat level. This is, of course, a more significant figure than your weight – which may be entirely appropriate for your age and height.
A doctor or medical professional is best placed to assess your situation, and for those under the age of 18, over the age of 65 or pregnant, a consultation with a doctor is essential. Others may consider the body mass index (BMI) a calculation of body fat based on the height and weight.
BMI is calculated with [weight] / [height]?, and both figures should be in either imperial or metric measurements. A normal, healthy level of body fat should produce a score of 20-25; a low level of body fat less than 20; a high level more than 25, and obesity more than 30.
There are thousands of websites with online calculators to make this score much easier to determine, and these same sites will usually provide information and links to other weight loss and dieting sites.
